ABOUT_

Configurations of Self

Configurations of Self is a niche imprint established in 2019 by producer & sound designer Alexander Church,
fusing academic teachings, music, & passion for visual media.

Our aim is to connect on both a mental & physical level with releases themed around a particular part of Church’s life,
of varying personality adaptations, and psychoanalytic thinking. Each EP is accompanied by his own images of
rural & empty places, lakes, and the coast.

Reflecting his diverse range of styles over the last 25 years, it is the melodic, atmospheric, and expansive
soundscapes paired with deep, futuristic electronica where we often find ourselves.

A configuration of self is a hypothetical construct denoting a coherent pattern of feelings, thoughts, and preferred behavioural responses symbolised or pre-symbolised by the person as reflective of a dimension of existence within the self.

(Thorne and Mearns, 2000)

RELEASES_

Each piece of music in the series represents emotional responses to the processes, feelings, and self-awareness from studying psychology and counselling, and in turn the multiple defense behaviours and personality traits that one has. The different themes are based on a particular part of Church’s life and academic journey, including accompanying media.
